Prof. Dr. C. Venkatachalam has received his MA,, M. Phil and PhD degrees from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, INDIA in Sociology with Industrial Sociology as a specialization in 1984, 1986 and 1990 respectively. He has obtained the Foundation Course on Research Methodology conducted by the Survey Research Training Centre (SRTC), New Delhi. He started his career as a Research Officer at Centre for Development Research & Training (CFDRT), Chennai in 1992 where he worked with the DANLEP Research project on social dimensions of leprosy patients. He is currently working as Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology, Periyar University, Salem, Tamil Nadu, India
Subsequently, he had a chance to associate himself with the National Family & Health Survey (NFHS) at Karnataka state, funded by USAID, monitored by International Institute of Population Sciences, Mumbai. He has served for UNICEF project Universal Immunization Program (UIP) and Oral Rehydration Therapy project of WHO and Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) project Social Forestry in all the districts in Tamil Nadu. A Lifetime Achievement in Sociology – 2017 Award has been bestowed to Prof. C. Venkatachalam for his contribution, research excellence and accomplishments in the area of Sociology. Prof. C. Venkatachalam is a global expert on elderly, children and womens social issues.
