I have over 43 years of experience in academia, 25 years of which involve holding senior administrative positions in the universities I serced in. I obtained my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Liverpool University UK, MSc in Industrial Engineering and Production Management from Cranfield University and PhD in Computer-Integrated Manufacturing from Loughborough University UK. My teaching and research interest currently include Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Management of Technology and Innovation.
I am active in research and have successfully completed many research projects in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia and also participated in two European Union-funded joint research programmes. I have published over 100 papers in international journals and conferences. Between 1997 until 2005 I was appointed as Universit Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Focus Group Research Leader in Manufacturing. I was appointed as Director of Business and Advanced Technology Centre (BATC), a prestigious industry-based executive training centre in UTM in 2008 and helped it to transform into Razak School of Engineering and Technology, a post-graduate focused faculty of Engineering and Informatics in 2010.
I was a member of UTM Strategic Planning Committee from 2008 until 2016. The committee oversaw the transformation and upward trajectory of UTM into a research-based university of international repute whose current QS ranking stands at 191 world-wide in 2021. We utilised Norton and Kaplan’s Balanced Scorecard as our performance management tool. This is also where most of my experience in managing the challenges of institutional change management on a practical basis was attained. I was appointed by the Ministry of Education of Malaysia to serve as a member of the National Committee on Research Universities beginning 2013 until 2015.I completed numerous consultancy appointments with the Malaysian Ministry of Education and top Malaysian companies as well as appointment as advisors on international assignments.
